RouteBuddy comes to iPhone

Much cleaner UI compared to Motion X and faster. It include OpenCycle and OpenStreetMaps, purchased maps e.g. OS and USGS but no GoogleMaps (yet?). I need to figure out its navigation options though, if any. The OS maps they sell for it are too pricey and there's no 1:250000 background road map like ViewRanger i.e when you get to the edge of a purchased OS map there is just a white expanse. It would be cool if all the maps seamlessly could join up or be layered.

Tlatet: Round Berkshire Cycle Route

Tlatet: Round Berkshire Cycle Route

I'll be using this on my iPhone to get from Slough to Hungerford (Moulton permitting) on my way to Bradford on Avon this September.

What a star this guy is for plotting the route for all to use though. Bravo!

Garden update

Start of double-digging. Soil, clay and organic material (dung). This will not be fun. Started shifting the om from front to garden on Friday. Should finish tommorow am. Nearly choked on the fumes on Friday. Seems to have settled down now.

Need a proper panel

This Mk 1 sutainable charger isn't working out. I left my Ultimate Addons 2000 mAh battery with solar panels to charge for 2 days is the July sun, and the battery was not charged.

The charge in the panel only gave my iPhone about 10% power. What crap.

I'll have to plug the Monkey into the wall tonight and get cracking on that Swiss Solarcard

Peckham Rye Common

Nice vista is this park. My bike chain snapped while I was riding down the adjacent road. iPhone to the rescue. Goolgle maps identified a nearby bike shop. I found it eventually. I went the wrong way first, trusting my memory it the roads rather than checking the map. Ho hum. So I need to wait here for 20 mins while they fix it. Could be worse.

Swiss Solar Card

Eco-lust. I see you in my future.

It gets better

It turns out that MotionX has something of an amazing hidden feature. Well I wasn't aware of it. The normal map it uses is OpenStreetMap, but if you switch to terrain view, the source changes to OpenCycleMap.

Amazing (just about, on 3G, perhaps a bit slow otherwise), but this means never getting lost in London again!

New route to work

Well, the GPS on my new iPhone has already proved useful. I traced my route to work in MotionX GPS and noticed a potential alternate route through Burgess Park.

See the lower straighter and faster route. It's also much greener (deep breath) and much smoother. I hope my rear wheel appreciates it, the top route was the worst roughest roads I have had to commute on. Good riddance.
